Apple understands customer service, Facebook is learning

The customer is always right…right?

Anyone who has ever visited an Apple store knows that there are no cash registers, everything is electronic.  So when Diane Campbell, who saved up her money to buy an iPad, tried to buy one in cash, she was turned away.  Not letting her case go, she blabs to the media, who blow up this story way out of proportion.

But, because of Ms. Campbell, Jobs reverses Apple’s policy (within days).  Now everyone can buy an iPad with cash.  Problem solved. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20005481-17.html

While Facebook’s Zuckerberg attended an Ivy, he’s been a little slow on the uptake. He didn’t completely understand the importance of catering to his customers when they complained about privacy settings (for weeks now). Because after all, without Facebook’s members, the site has no use.  It’s safe to assume that Zuckerberg finally ‘gets it’.  http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2010/05/24/daily65.html?ana=e_pft

No press is bad…even for BP

On May 19th, an anonymous person decided to create a mock-BP twitter account, calling it @BPGlobalPR.  As of a moment ago, (yes, I just looked), this twitter handle has accumulated  33,756 followers….wait, it actually just increased to 33, 850 (Insane!?)

Basically it’s become a message board for people who want to vent about the current oil spill, in 140 characters or less.   BP doesn’t mind its existence.  The masses are loving it.  And yes, someone other than BP is profiting off of this, supposedly all the money is going to a non-profit.

In any case, you too can own a t-shirt, to mark this random occasion is social media history.

Twitter and YouTube could make you the star you always knew you were

These are strange times that we’re living in…unemployment is at an all time high, the financial markets are completely out of control, ‘bankruptcy’ and ‘foreclosure’ are so commonly heard on TV, you may as well start a drinking game, AND Twitter and YouTube could make you famous (in less than 2 weeks!)!

Sounds like it’s too good to be true?  Just ask Ellen DeGeneres to tell you about her talk show guest, 12-year-old Greyson Chance.

Apple prototypes playing a game of Where’s Waldo?

It’s obvious that making a sale in these times, are tough.  But it seems like Apple is playing the ‘oh my, wherever did that prototype go?’ game, one too many times.

Exactly 1 month ago, from today – April 19th, Gizmodo posted pictures of the next generation iPhone that was found (“lost”) in a German pub in California.  Today – May 19th, we learn that the next generation iPod Touch has surfaced in Vietnam, as per the site Tinhte.

Let’s play a game! Which prototype do you think will be ‘lost’ on June 19th (and where?)?

Facebook….too big to fail?

Remember a site called MySpace?

It looks like it’s gearing up for a comeback.  If Facebook doesn’t acknowledge the importance of privacy settings over the bottom line (hint hint)…MySpace may have a decent chance at regaining it’s spot as a major player in social media.

Facebook and privacy is like oil and water

For a few weeks now I’ve been ‘threatening’ to remove my profile from Facebook.  Most of my friends scoffed at the idea, not believing that I would actually go through with it.

I can proudly say that I officially deactivated my profile yesterday. Basically, Facebook has become  too ‘big brother’ for me.

Check out the IM conversation in this posting, definitely feel like I made the right move.
