Scratch & sniff billboards..?

Marketers at Bloom, a division of Food Lion, are taking their advertising gimmick to a whole new level.

Imagine driving down Highway 150 in Mooresville, NC (it’s north of Charlotte, yes, I just looked), and thinking you’re smelling steak?  Well, fortunately, it wouldn’t just be your imagination.

Apparently the scent was being emitted by a fan blowing air over cartridges filled with a BBQ fragrance oil, at the bottom of a huge billboard advertising Bloom’s steaks.

I’d be interested to know if  Bloom (the grocery store) was actually selling more steak because of this…

No press is bad…even for BP

On May 19th, an anonymous person decided to create a mock-BP twitter account, calling it @BPGlobalPR.  As of a moment ago, (yes, I just looked), this twitter handle has accumulated  33,756 followers….wait, it actually just increased to 33, 850 (Insane!?)

Basically it’s become a message board for people who want to vent about the current oil spill, in 140 characters or less.   BP doesn’t mind its existence.  The masses are loving it.  And yes, someone other than BP is profiting off of this, supposedly all the money is going to a non-profit.

In any case, you too can own a t-shirt, to mark this random occasion is social media history.

Only in NY…

It’s almost normal to see people dress up their dogs in booties and designer outfits, push them in strollers, and take them to doggie spas…but this, takes the definition of a dog-lover to whole  new level.

Like the human version of the carrot and the donkey

This is going to be the best invention ever!  It’s like the human version of the carrot and the donkey.

The idea of the gym is not exciting on its own (completely personal opinion), and without an accompaniment of  my own personal soundtrack of choice, preferably one with hip-hop beats, it’s nearly impossible to step foot into one.

Hopefully Georgia Tech and Piezodyne get a move on with this invention…because I’d like to pre-order mine.

Twitter and YouTube could make you the star you always knew you were

These are strange times that we’re living in…unemployment is at an all time high, the financial markets are completely out of control, ‘bankruptcy’ and ‘foreclosure’ are so commonly heard on TV, you may as well start a drinking game, AND Twitter and YouTube could make you famous (in less than 2 weeks!)!

Sounds like it’s too good to be true?  Just ask Ellen DeGeneres to tell you about her talk show guest, 12-year-old Greyson Chance.

If this doesn’t make you want to quit smoking…you’re a lost case

Scientists in China have identified 9 different chemicals in cigarette butts that apparently protect steel pipes (specifically oil pipes) from rusting.

Next time you take a smoking break at work, try to imagine an offshore oil rig.  Before reading this, you probably would have thought, who cares about an oil rig?  But after reading this article, you will see the significance.

Who would’ve thunk that YOU (the smoker) and an oil rig, had so much in common?

Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn’t it?

The American Heart Associations approves this videogame

Talk about a state of panic…Looks like the most random of organizations and companies are joining forces to fight obesity.  The American Heart Association and Nintendo are going to be working together to promote Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.

Question: Are the people who buy Nintendo Wii active games, the same people who will care that there will be a AHA certified stamp on the box?  It’ll definitely be a niche market.  But will it be enough to encourage people that exercise is fun?
