No press is bad…even for BP

On May 19th, an anonymous person decided to create a mock-BP twitter account, calling it @BPGlobalPR.  As of a moment ago, (yes, I just looked), this twitter handle has accumulated  33,756 followers….wait, it actually just increased to 33, 850 (Insane!?)

Basically it’s become a message board for people who want to vent about the current oil spill, in 140 characters or less.   BP doesn’t mind its existence.  The masses are loving it.  And yes, someone other than BP is profiting off of this, supposedly all the money is going to a non-profit.

In any case, you too can own a t-shirt, to mark this random occasion is social media history.

The Jetsons have arrived!

Remember watching the Jetsons, and thinking, ‘I wish I had a robot that could do my work!’ Well, that time has nearly arrived.

Soon we won’t be blaming the economy for the lack of jobs, but rather these awesome robots.

Too many choices can be confusing

You’d think that big brand names would know the best way to leverage technology, right?

Here’s the deal – Procter & Gamble (P&G) has decided to join the masses of retailers by opening an online store.  They say that they’re just conducting research on online shopping, but really…can we really believe that?

On the one hand, yes, maybe they are just conducting research, but can’t they utilize their current distributors’ sites to do that?  If all big branded consumer product makers took to selling their products on their own sites..just think of the damage to wholesalers, distributors, and retailers…    P&G, really, now is not the time for this…

This would be genius…if it really worked

The CEO of LifeLock,  an identity protection company, decided that he’d prove to the public-at-large, just how on-the-ball his company is at protecting individuals from identity theft (since that’s what they do).  How did he do it?  By allowing LifeLock to use his personal social security number in their advertising campaign.  Now that’s the definition of trust.

The advertising campaign began in 2007, guess how many times Todd Davis, the CEO, had his identity stolen?

If your answer is “zero”, well, you’re a tad off…(and then there would be no story here…).

Twitter and YouTube could make you the star you always knew you were

These are strange times that we’re living in…unemployment is at an all time high, the financial markets are completely out of control, ‘bankruptcy’ and ‘foreclosure’ are so commonly heard on TV, you may as well start a drinking game, AND Twitter and YouTube could make you famous (in less than 2 weeks!)!

Sounds like it’s too good to be true?  Just ask Ellen DeGeneres to tell you about her talk show guest, 12-year-old Greyson Chance.

Personalized calorie counter? Are they trying to slow down their sales?

It makes sense that restaurants are trying to think of additional added-value options to differentiate themselves from the masses, because, if you think about it, we have a lot of choices when it comes to eating out.  But, unless you’re choosing to eat a dry salad, grilled chicken or steamed vegetables, chances are, you don’t really want to know how many calories you’re ingesting.

Why? Because, we’re not stupid, we know that it’s probably not the healthiest choice.

Apple prototypes playing a game of Where’s Waldo?

It’s obvious that making a sale in these times, are tough.  But it seems like Apple is playing the ‘oh my, wherever did that prototype go?’ game, one too many times.

Exactly 1 month ago, from today – April 19th, Gizmodo posted pictures of the next generation iPhone that was found (“lost”) in a German pub in California.  Today – May 19th, we learn that the next generation iPod Touch has surfaced in Vietnam, as per the site Tinhte.

Let’s play a game! Which prototype do you think will be ‘lost’ on June 19th (and where?)?

Computers…coming soon to a TV near you

Google, Intel and Sony are joining forces to bring us (drum roll, please) – “Smart TV”.  This new deal is going to be unveiled at Google’s annual developer conference in San Francisco this week.  Intel CEO promises, that [whatever this Smart TV is] will be as big a revolutionary change to TV as was color.

Smart TV… it’s safe to assume that Sony TVs will operate like a computer (hint: Intel) that will have a search engine device (ala Google)?  So how will a device like a Smart TV fill a need?  Are they trying to make us lazier? We can’t flip through the channels on our own?  Or..(gasp) do something that doesn’t involve sitting on a couch staring at a box?
